Mothers Month (Part 1)

Being raised in a not so functional family forced me to function. My mother was a very young lost mom with her own history. Where there are many qualities I love about my mother, there are some lacking. This led me to be the sponge I am today. Learning from the wonderful women who have come into my life, not knowing it was perfect timing or the impact they left on me. I consider all the following women a special part of my journey and another piece to my puzzle heart. The following ladies have no idea what a huge part they played in my growing. The strength, love, guidance and freedom these women carry are only touching the surface of the numerous qualities they possess. Here we had shared a day together as I captured life as you see it. Thank you for being you! Happy Mothers Day!

BETTI
Betti and I became a part of each others world back in the 1990’s when all the rage was Nirvana, Pearl Jam, blue hair, and piercings. Can we say holy grunge? I walked into this very small building with kids hanging on the stairs, playing the guitar, and singing. Who can forget the murals on the walls. Wow, so friendly all the kids and staff. As I sat in the waiting room I looked around knowing this could be for me, but in the back of my mind I was plagued by thoughts of failure. No saving me now. As the office door opened, I was beckoned by this woman of tiny stature, dressed to the nines. Even though I walked in without greeting my future principal, she still followed behind with an ever so gentle touch to my back, showing me the way. Was I ready to let a stranger in? I knew at this point it was all going to be ok.
Being introduced to Betti saved me. I was shy with an attitude toward the world and she never gave up on me. She went to bat for me many times and stuck by me even in the midst of my complete breakdowns. She broke my shell and revealed the real me. The me that could be. Thank you for showing me the way.

Your drive has given hope to many.

Your hands tell your commitment and the love for all the kids that have come your way.

Your voice helped me know my own.

Thank you for helping me live the life I imagined. Thank you for everything.

TINA
Becoming Tina’s employee was a complete right time right place situation. We met through her children while I was running an art program at a local daycare where her children attended. Her daughter was my complete sidekick and her son was just a doll sitting in my lap while I read stories. When the opportunity came to take care of them for a summer I jumped at it. Not knowing this would turn into seven years of amazing experiences and friendships for a lifetime. Our friendship was one that was meant to be. Tina not only shared her children with me but her entire family. I will never forget the first family function she included my husband and I. The room was filled with laughter and teasing and welcoming arms. No arguing or rushing to get out of there. I did not understand the feeling of wanting to be a part of a family until Tina came along. She taught me these times are precious and go by so quickly. Treat yourself well and happiness will follow. I never had to tell Tina my story. She always knew.
